Mellilah's Belly Dance Bio
Mellilah performs the ancient art of belly dance,
also known as raqs sharqi, throughout the Greater
Seattle Area and beyond. A true entertainer,
Mellilah’s elegance and charismatic style keep
audiences of all ages enchanted. Her shows are fun
and dazzling, leaving guests amused, at ease and
wanting more!
Mellilah performs professionally as a soloist for
restaurants, corporate events and private parties
throughout the Puget Sound Area, specializing in
Egyptian cabaret, cane, sword, veil, zills, and
singing belly grams, a classic singing telegram with a
twist! She is a member of the Blue Lotus Dance
Company directed by multi-award winning dancer,
Nalini. Also, Mellilah often dances with a live
Arabic band, musicians and other dancers and has
been featured in many of Seattle's restaurants and
large-scale stage productions. Mellilah is the co-
producer of “Jewels of Egypt: Dances from Afar” a
monthly dance showcase, featuring local dancers
and musicians of various styles.
In August of 2007, Mellilah completed Hadia's
Middle Eastern Dancer Teacher Training program,
Level 1 and Level 2. She now teaches private
lessons in her Mountlake Terrace studio and group
classes in Bothell. Additionally, she holds a group
fitness instructor certificate from the Fitness
Institute of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, a B.S. in
Education, and Minor in Music.
Mellilah is currently a board member and the
Volunteer Coordinator of Middle East Arts
International (MEAI), a non profit organization
seeking to expand and build cross-cultural ties and
the personal growth of all individuals via the
support and promotion of excellence in Middle
East inspired music and dance.
Mellilah's technique and style can be attributed to
her extensive training with some of the finest
international and national artists, including Alimah,
Aziza, Dahlia, Elisa Gamal, Elisabeth Dennis,
Hadia, Katia, Leila of Cairo, Maleeha, Nadira,
Sabura, Tina Sargent, and Zaphara and Delilah (her
very first instructors). Currently, Mellilah is
working closely with Dahlia and Nalini.
